Hello!
My name is John Black and I am an experienced Theatre Manager in educational performing arts facilities. I am currently serving as Theatre Manager at Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, South Korea. In this role I am responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of three performance venues and the technical systems installed. I also am the production manager/technical director and designer for all of the performing arts department productions, as well as sharing the scenic design responsibilities.
Aside from the joys of working in state-of-the art facilities and supporting a very full event schedule, I love to share my passion for live event production with students. During my time at Seoul Foreign School, I developed a student technician program called Crusader Live, training high school students behind the scenes in scenery construction, lighting, audio, video production and more in a program designed as an apprenticeship experience where students are working on real production and events. Over 80 students have gone through the program and been a part of creating the live experiences Seoul Foreign School audiences love and expect.
I am currently updating this website with lots of new resources and media in my portfolio. If you're a technical theatre student, teacher or are involved in any form of live entertainment technical production, I hope you will find resources on this site that are useful and that you are able to apply to your own projects. Please feel free to contact me via the Contact page if you have any questions or particular content you'd like to see published!
